On Joining the Marine Corps

Well first of all, I was going to college and I was almost flunking out. So I decided, "Well, I have to do something else." And then a friend of mine said, “Why don’t you do it?” And I said, “Okay.” But it was nothing really- not a big deal. But something like that. Plus, I remember thinking at that time, well, once I get out, you see, I would get the GI Bill and get help, financial, with my education so that was another motivating factor I think.
