This collection approaches the history of the Celso Ramos Colony, founded in 1964 near the city of Curitibanos - Santa Catarina. The community is the result of a joint effort between the state government and the Japanese government. From this union was born the Celso Ramos Colonial Nucleus that since the foundation has made important contributions to Brazilian agriculture and is one of the symbols of the Japanese-Brazilian culture.
This collection was specially prepared for the Symposium "100 Years of Japanese Immigration: The Multiple Identities of the Nikkei Community" held on September 20, 2008 at the Japan Foundation in São Paulo. The photos were kindly provided by Mr. Fumio Honda, one of the pioneers of the Celso Ramos Colony and speaker at the table "In Search of New Dreams: Nikkei Communities for Brazil and Contribution to Brazilian Agribusiness."
